Living in Southern California, it is safe to say that the majority of weddings I photograph are outdoors… and why not? It hardly ever rains and the climate is very temperate – especially by the ocean. Still, churches provide a stunning backdrop for photos while at the same time providing a comfortable and traditional setting for a wedding.
Last weekend I was at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Oceanside for a beautiful ceremony. The bride looked fantastic and we were able to get down to the pier for a few portraits after the ceremony.
I was invited by mplusm Photography to help photograph portraits for the gymnastics teams attending the National competition in San Diego. The photography team consisted or Mac, Diane, Juliana, Patrick and myself. We worked together to manage the flow of athletes, parents and coaches within the space that had been provided to us (and was far too small). Three long days later we had photographed hundreds of athletes from all across the country – and here’s a small sample of the resulting work.
Last week I had the pleasure of working with Megan and Joy to help put together a fashion shoot at Torrey Pines in San Diego. Joy put together some great looks and Megan was fantastic in front of the lens – it was a pleasure working with both of you. Here’s some photos from the day.
The Botanical Gardens in Encinitas (recently renamed the San Diego Botanical Gardens) was a gorgeous location for a wedding and reception. The ceremony took place on the Gazebo lawn while the reception happened within the walled garden. I had the opportunity to walk around the garden with the bride and groom to capture some photos between wedding and reception. Fortunately the opportunity for photography at this location is practically unlimited.
I met up with Carlos and Analy at Disneyland to capture some photos to celebrate their engagement in one of their favorite places. I have been to Disneyland once as an adult and once as a five year old child so I didn’t really know what we were going to find but I knew there would be lots of opportunities for some fun pictures.
The beach in front of the Del was ranked as the 5th best beach in America by the travel channel. What better place to get married than on that very beach at sunset?
Jessica and Mike were fortunate to have a beautiful sunset without the common marine layer cloud found offshore in San Diego. From The Del on Coronado the sun sets over Point Loma providing lots of opportunity for post-sunset photography. Here’s a few pictures from the evening.
I’ve been invited to photograph portraits and action shots for San Diego United Training Center gymnastics program. As expected, the girls put on an impressive display of acrobatics for me to photograph. Afterwords we put together this design layout to make a memorable image for the parents to purchase.
I went to Balboa Park with Melanie and Ross for some engagement photos. They were super cool to work with and we even worked on a flexible schedule to make sure we were going to be able to get the best weather. In San Diego we get the “May gray skies” and you just can’t count on the sun coming out like you can for much of the year around here. It could not have been a nicer evening for photography in San Diego.
Last October I worked with MPLUSM Photography to capture both Photography and Videography of the Donley Wedding. Here is a look at the fusion show assembled by Mac and Diane.
I met Laura and Kyle at Windansea for some maternity photos. To clear this up right away – there seems to be a lot of confusion around town about whether the location is Windansea, Wind ‘n Sea or Windandsea… but I’m pretty sure its “Windansea” so I’m going with that. The photo session went great except the part where all my camera gear was taken out by a rogue wave. Fortunately most of my gear is waterproof so all I lost was a Canon 430exII flash and a spare battery for my Canon 1DmkIII. All of the Pentax gear survived completely unharmed. It turned out to be just another great day for photography down in LaJolla
